Welcome to the Burlingame Smile Studio blog! Today we are going to explore the secret life of our teeth.
The shape of each tooth gives a clue to what it does. The incisors, or your front teeth, are sharp. They are designed to cut food into pieces, while their curves help to move food inside your mouth.
Behind the incisors, you find the canine teeth. Their roots go far into the jaw bone because they are designed to hold onto food and tear through it.
Premolars, found just behind the canines, are flat on the surface. Because of this, they can pulverize your food as you chew.
Finally, in the very back are the molars. They are the biggest in size of all the teeth and have flat surfaces that help them to grind food down into small digestible bits.
It’s important that each tooth in your mouth is where it should be. Misaligned teeth or bite issues affect your health and quality of life.
At Burlingame Smile Studio, we help our patients achieve a beautiful smile with orthodontia.
